Practice Midterm Blues

Well, I'm sitting here proctoring the "practice midterm", and there are only nine students writing it. That's 10% of the class.

I think my lesson here is that I won't do this exercise again. I hoped that people would seriously try to solve it, and then I would be available afterward to discuss the problems.

However, hopefully all the practice problems will help many of you to do well on the midterm next week.

I'm not posting solutions for the practice midterm, because the questions are so similar to those solved in class (or by Ming in the PA sessions this week).

Also, I'm not planning on posting the sample midterm. If you have a valid reason for not showing up today to get a copy, send me an email and I'll "see what I can do".

hi sir i think the reason there were not enough students in the class was because i don't think the class has any clue on how to solve the the problems. sorry you had to go through this experience to find out though i was 1 of the 9 who stayed behind and i still did not know how to do them.

I would not be discouraged about the number of ppl that stayed in the class to write the practice midterm, and I don't think you should take it as a lesson to not do it in the future.

Did you ask anyone why they had to leave? I had two assignments due yesterday, as did most of the class. We only had a certain amount of time left to finish them, however, we knew coming and getting the midterm would be excellent practice, but yesterday was not a good day.

I am sitting here, writing the midterm you gave, because today i have time. It was not because i didn't think it was important, but because there were other things that had to take priority.

I think I can safely say that the class was very happy to get a practice midterm, and it will be very helpful.
